In addition to 12 years as a fundraising professional, Mark has been a fundraising consultant, facilitator, and teacher for nonprofit organizations. He is also an International Coaching Federation Certified Coach (ACC) and received his certification in Leadership Coaching through the Institute for Transformational Leadership of Georgetown University. Mark has an active practice of coaching individual non-profit leaders, coaching groups, and team coaching.

Since 2002, Mark has been engaged in building cultures of generosity and supporting stewardship programs at religious communities in the eastern and central areas of the USA. These have ranged from small fellowships in towns to large churches in big cities. For the last five years, Mark has been an official Congregational Stewardship Consultant for the Unitarian Universalist Association, authored its web-based stewardship development program, FORTH, and is a regular presenter at national conferences. Using all of this background, Mark combines the ministry of stewardship with the practical intelligence of good fundraising practices.

Mark has been a lay leader at All Souls Church Unitarian in Washington, DC for over a decade. He is the immediate past President of the Board of Trustees at All Souls, which completed an ambitious capital campaign during his tenure. He also formed and led their Development Ministry Team (now called the Stewardship Committee), has chaired the Generosity Campaign (Annual Budget Drive) repeatedly.

From 1998 to 2008, Mark Ewert advanced from manager to director, then to the executive team at the national American Lung Association, serving as the CEO of an affiliated professional organization. During this time his roles also changed — from implementing fundraising directly, to training nonprofessionals to raise money for the organization using their passion for the mission, to consulting and coaching other professionals to strategize, plan, and execute effective fundraising strategies, to providing staff and volunteers with learning opportunities in all areas of work – including their own professional development.

Lyons SMAs Mark promised, the visioning weekend sessions were full, busy and very energizing. We have received great feedback from those who participated and several newer community members and folks, who had been involved in other efforts, emerged as true leaders and are enthusiastic about taking the results of the visioning weekend to the next step. We appreciate Mark’s amazing knowledge base and his humorous and effective leadership style!
