I am happy to announce that I have earned certification as a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) from The American College of Financial Services.
What is a CAP®?
The Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® is professional designation from the Richard D. Irwin Graduate School of The American College of Financial Services, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The CAP® program provides professionals in the nonprofit and financial services fields with the knowledge and tools needed to help clients reach their charitable giving objectives while also helping them meet their estate planning and wealth management goals. The program is approved by the Center on Philanthropy at the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts in Indianapolis.
Candidates for the CAP® designation must complete a minimum of three courses in philanthropic studies at the Irwin Graduate School and six hours of rigorous, supervised written examinations. The curriculum addresses the advanced design, implementation and management of charitable gift techniques and strategies, as well as philanthropic tools including charitable trusts, private foundations, supporting organizations, donor-advised funds, pooled income funds and charitable gift annuities.
CAP® program classes are offered at the graduate level with learning objectives that focus on aspects of charitable planned and major gifts, including:
- Gift planning styles
- Charitable tools
- Planning for impact
- Integrating gifts within a nonprofit
- Ethical, professional, humane and civic ideals in charitable giving
A Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) has the knowledge and tools to help clients articulate and advance their highest aspirations for self, family, and society, and reach their financial and philanthropic goals. Although the philanthropic sector continues to grow and evolve, as does philanthropic advising, there is really only one recognized credential for those working in the field. That is the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designation.
